Andamooka Opal comes in several distinct varieties, ranging from the most common being a hard concrete matrix that typically (but not always) is given a sugar treatment to darken the body tone and bring out the vibrancy in the opal color, a precious opal variety that is world renowned for the incredibly beautiful gemstones they produce, and becoming increasingly more uncommon, as well as a rare type of seam opal affectionately called "Painted Lady" opal that creates thin and beautiful opal layer within cracks of quartzite host mineral.
